We created Mèrge from a question that we had never been able to answer satisfactorily from any single fragrance we had ever worn: what does everything beautiful, held in perfect balance, actually smell like? Every fragrance we had admired
— every oriental, every fougère, every floral, every leather, every resinous, every fresh —
had given us part of the answer. The great ouds of Arabia had given us depth and sacred weight. The flowers of Grasse had given us beauty and elegance.
The spices of the East had given us warmth and complexity. The leathers of the great classical houses had given us authority and sophistication. The ambers and resins had given us warmth and longevity.
But no single fragrance had given us all of it at once. Mèrge was our attempt to answer that question. Not by combining notes carelessly, not by simply adding more and hoping that quantity would substitute for quality, but by bringing together the finest materials from across the full spectrum of perfumery
— from the sacred resins of the Arabian Gulf to the florals of the Mediterranean to the mossy woodlands of the classical fougère —
and submitting them to the discipline of a composition built with the same rigour and patience that the greatest works of perfumery have always demanded. It took three master perfumers, twenty-six months, and ninety-one trial compositions. It is the most complex fragrance we have ever made.
It is, we believe, the most extraordinary thing in the BECOS LUXURY range. And it is dedicated to everyone who has ever felt that their character was too complex to be captured by a single fragrance — because Mèrge was made for exactly that person.
